Social media safety tips for your children.

Are your children starting to get interested in joining social media safety? If so, there’s not much you can do to stop them. Although there’s not much you can do to protect them online altogether, there are some safety precautions to take to protect them as best you can. Here are some tips to help you get started.
Get familiar with the sites. You may not be on social media sites, but you should get familiar with them so that you know what to expect. Popular sites are Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Tumblr, but get familiar with the sites that your child wants to join.
Set up their profile with them. Sit down with your son or daughter and set up their profile with them. This way, you can help them to determine a strong and secure password. You can also then turn on Parental Controls and set their profile to private.
Limit friends. Encourage your child to only accept friend requests from people that they know in real life. You can set a lot of profiles to only accept friend requests from friends of friends, limiting the number of strangers that can add your child.
Educate them about content. Ensure your child knows not to share sensitive information online, such as their address, full name, school, and more. He or she should also know that once they share information online, even if they delete it, it is never really gone. Teach them to be mindful of this before selecting the ‘Share’ button. He or she should know how to block or delete friends and information, too.
Set screen time limits. It’s a bad idea for your kid to get too used to scrolling through social media constantly. Set time limits for how long they can be on social media, allowing them at least an hour to unwind from social media before bedtime.
